<link>http://www.icelollytv.com/video/1941/white-water-rafting-in-the-laurentians/</link>
<description>A vast and welcoming region, a fascinating land, the Laurentians, north of Montréal, is a world renowned four-season tourist destination. Journeying over plains and valleys, trekking over hills and mountains, there’s a kaleidoscope of landscapes, bursting with beauty. The region takes its name from the chain of mountains which runs down its northern side, and is part of the great Canadian Shield, which covers most of Quebec north of the St. Lawrence River. Its lively and picturesque villages offer visitors a warm and lasting welcome.

<title>Heli-skiing in British Columbia, Canada</title>
<link>http://www.icelollytv.com/video/1936/heli-skiing-in-british-columbia-canada/</link>
<description>Heli-skiing was pioneered in British Columbia more than 40 years ago. Today, BC is still recognized as one of the world’s leading heli-ski destinations.
Heli-skiing means accessing untouched, remote alpine terrain via helicopter. Adventurous skiers and boarders know that BC’s huge, consistent snowfalls, cool temperatures and ten massive mountain ranges translates to untouched powder, epic descents and diverse, wild terrain.
There are more than 20 heli-skiing operators scattered throughout the province. All access deep powder and vast expanses of untracked terrain, but have an array of heli-ski packages, amenities, accommodations, and services to suit all budgets and tastes.
Main Heli-Skiing regions:
The Bugaboos - Characterized by mighty granite spires, the Bugaboo Mountains offer immense variety in terrain, with plentiful ski runs both above and below tree line
Kootenay Rockies: The birthplace of heli-skiing and the region with the highest number of operators in BC.
Northern British Columbia: One of the largest heli-skiing areas on the planet, with skiable terrain as far north as the 60th parallel.
Cariboo Chilcotin Coast: Deep snow packs, sprawling ice fields, steep descents and some of the highest peaks in BC.
Vancouver, Coast &amp; Mountains: Remote heli-skiing in the Pemberton Valley with all the amenities of nearby Whistler.
Thompson Okanagan: Includes a self-contained “heli-village” resort, expansive provincial parks, and the highest peak in the Rocky Mountains.
Whistler: Heli-skiing terrain more than 100 times the size of Whistler’s ski resort, plus a legendary après-ski scene.

Snow and Terrain

BC is known for its challenging heli-ski terrain, but there are some gentler slopes as well. Ski alpine glaciers, open bowls, tree-lined glades, chutes, steeps and couloirs.

Annual snowfall in BC ranges from 10.5m/35ft on the west coast to a substantial 15m/50ft in the eastern Kootenay Rockies. Depending on the time of year, climate, and mountains, snow conditions can vary from knee-deep champagne powder to effortless, velvety corn snow. Ski season generally begins in mid-November and can last until late spring.

Heli Ski Tours

There are endless options for heli-skiing tours. Join a multi-day excursion or head to a ski resort for a single-day trip. Packages can range from small groups to private, customized tours and can include activities like lift and cat-skiing, fishing, or soaking in a natural hot spring.

Accommodations can be remote destination lodges or convenient in-town hotels. At day&#039;s end, enjoy gourmet food, après-ski nightlife, and amenities such as hot tubs, fireplaces, fitness centres – even an indoor climbing wall.

Equipment and Ability

Heli-skiing is typically for intermediate to advanced skiers with good physical fitness. Each heli-skiing operator has different guidelines, but clients should be able to comfortably ski blue and black diamond runs at ski resorts.

Powder skis/snowboards and poles are supplied, although a few operators rent equipment at an additional price. Guests must bring clothing and boots (tip: pack boots as carry-on luggage if flying).

Heli-Skiing vs. Cat-Skiing

When inclement weather prevents helicopters from flying, some operators turn to cat-skiing as a guaranteed back-up. Hop in a snowcat (a treaded, truck-like vehicle), and access lower altitude – but still exhilarating – runs. Cat-skiing is generally less expensive than heli-skiing.
Practical Points
•	All of BC’s heli-skiing operators follow strict safety guidelines, and certified guides accompany skiers to help ensure a safe experience.
•	Departures may be delayed due to inclement weather.

<title>Killer Whale Watching by Kayak in British Columbia</title>
<link>http://www.icelollytv.com/video/1935/killer-whale-watching-by-kayak-in-british-columbia/</link>
<description>Whale watching in British Columbia is an extraordinary experience, but if you want a real ‘up close and personal’ experience then jump into a kayak and check out the killer whales – also known as Orcas. Pods of Orcas (killer whales) reside in southern Vancouver Island’s protected, marine-life-rich coastal waters and as a consequence there’s plenty of opportunity to see the stunning creatures.

Viewing opportunities abound from May until October, near major cities such as Vancouver and Victoria, and in more remote (yet easily accessible) locations off the north and west coasts of Vancouver Island and in Northern BC.

There are many other types of whale watching tours in BC. On a tour, zip along in a high-speed, open-air zodiac to whale feeding grounds, or watch from the side of a sturdy cruise ship.

Whale sightings are so common along the BC coast that many tour operators provide a whale sighting guarantee: see a whale, or the next excursion’s free.

Types of Whales, Wildlife and Scenery
Think dramatic, windswept shores, endless miles of sandy beaches, islands, hidden coves and swirling currents.
And of course, there are other types of whales in British Columbia such as gray, Minke and humpback. Thousands of whales migrate along the BC coastline en route to Alaska or back to Mexico.
Also be on the lookout for porpoises, seals, sea lions, seabirds and more. On many guided tours, onboard naturalists and marine biologists explain these fascinating marine ecosystems.

Whale-watching near Vancouver and Victoria
There’s not too many places in the world where it&#039;s possible to walk to the downtown harbour of a capital city, don a marine suit, board a high-speed zodiac and be sighting whales within minutes.
This is the case in Victoria, and whale watching is just a short, convenient launch from Vancouver, too. Feeding grounds are located close by BC’s two major cities.

Whale Watching on Vancouver Island and in Northern BC
BC boasts hundreds of kilometres/miles of remote inlets and a craggy coastline, particularly along Vancouver Island and in Northern BC.
Whale-watching operators head to secluded spots where whales thrive, but are much too remote and harsh for human settlement.
Stellar whale-watching spots include:
• Robson Bight Ecological Reserve (northern Vancouver Island)
• Pacific Rim National Park Reserve of Canada (west-central Vancouver Island)
• Gulf Islands National Park Reserve
• Prince Rupert (Northern BC)

A few of the larger companies around the regions include, but aren&#039;t limited to:

• Stubbs Whale Watching, located in Telegraph Cove, started BC’s first whale-watching outfit in 1980. Since then, the province’s whale-watching industry has flourished.
• Jamie’s Whaling Station &amp; Adventure Centres (Tofino, Vancouver Island)
• Prince of Whales Whale Watching (Vancouver and Victoria)
• Prince Rupert Adventure Tours (Northern BC)

During peak season, choose a departure time that works for you, as well as boat size, which vary from zodiacs to cruise ships loaded with amenities, comforts and covered viewing areas.

<title>Christmas Markets - Dutch shopping (and holidaying) delights</title>
<link>http://www.icelollytv.com/video/1934/christmas-markets---dutch-shopping-(and-holidaying)-delights/</link>
<description>A lot of the magic of Christmas is lost if it is spent trawling around shopping centres hunting for a unique gift that, in all likelihood, can be found at another chain store less than a mince pie’s throw away. However, a visit to one of Europe’s top Christmas markets is the perfect antidote. Not only to you get an unforgettable festive experience, you can also load your car up with gifts and get a short holiday into the bargain.

The most sensible way to make the trip is by ferry, and this winter, Stena Line is opening up Holland and Germany’s finest Christmas markets to visitors from the UK. Passengers will be able to escape the rising airline luggage costs onboard one of the twice-daily crossings from Harwich to Holland, perfect for bringing home all sorts of presents for the whole family.

This video highlights two top Dutch Christmas markets, the first being the Fluweelengrot (Velvet Cave Christmas market) at Valkenburg, two hours 30 minutes’ drive from the Hook of Holland. It takes place between 20 November and 22 December 2010 and is the most highly anticipated Christmas event in Holland. The atmosphere of the cave evokes ancient and forgotten legends and memories of the city of Valkenburg. A walking tour of the market leads visitors through a romantically lit Christmas cave with impressive mural carvings and sculptures.

The second is the “Winterland Maastricht,” two hours 20 minutes’ drive from the Hook of Holland. Now in it’s 13th year it will be running for six weeks between Friday 3 December - Sunday 2 January 2011, with the Vrijthof transformed into a winter square. Visitors to Maastricht will enjoy a 100m² ice-rink, big wheel, Christmas train, grand carousel and free-flowing Glühwein (warm red wine).

Also don’t forget the The Dordrecht Christmas market, 45 minutes’ drive from the Hook of Holland, takes place between 17 and 19 December 2010 and is Holland’s biggest Christmas market with over 300 stalls. The entire historic city centre is decorated and the gardens of the Grote Kerk (Large Church) are transformed with Christmas trees and a manger. To get everyone in the festive spirit, there are musical acts to entertain the crowds as well a traditional nativity scene.

Travel details:
Stena Line (www.stenaline.co.uk; 08447 70 70 70) offers daytime and overnight crossings between Harwich and the Hook of Holland aboard two new Superferries, Stena Hollandica and Stena Britannica. Fares start from just £49 one-way for a driver and car, plus £12 per additional adult. Cabins for overnight crossings start from £24 per person one-way, based on two sharing.
